10/11/2005: Mr. Broad Blade Welcomes His First Winner

After making his first start in a sprint, Youcallinmealiar stretched out to a mile and scored a clear-cut victory in his second start Sunday at Santa Anita.
He thus became the first winner for his sire, Mr. Broad Blade, a stakes-winning son of Broad Brush who's had only five starters from his first two small crops. Youcallinmealiar is one of three starters from his second crop, now 2-year-olds. The other two have placed.
From the start of the race, Youcallinmealiar was never as much as a length behind while running second and third. when the field moved into the stretch, he took over the lead and gradually lengthened his margin, finally winning by 2 1/2 lengths.
Youcallinmealiar was bred in California by Phil Belmonte, Guy Campochiaro, and Barry Shapiro and is owned by Belmonte, Shapiro, and Chris Campochiaro.
He's trained by Mike Mitchell.
Mr. Broad Blade, a stakes winner of $191,724, stands at Magali Farms, Santa Ynez, Calif.--October 11.
